Research Interests

My research interests revolve around leveraging interdisciplinary approaches to tackle complex challenges in bioengineering and computational biology. Specifically, I am passionate about developing advanced imaging techniques, exploring stochastic systems biology models, and integrating machine learning algorithms to drive innovation in microscopy and cellular engineering.

Stochastic Models of Biological Systems

Stochastic models are critical to helping researchers quanity the noise of gene regulation in cells. From these systems we can propose difficult control theory problems which help us expoit the the natural noise of these systems to help us rather than hurt us.

Real-Time Fluorescent Nascent Protein Imaging Techniques

Real time imaging of fluorescent proteins enable researchers to quanity the number of protein in a cell at any given time. This heterogenous process is very noisy and similar cells do not have similar responses despite having the same initial conditions and genetics. By changing the experimental conditions we can oberve how noise and models simulteously affect the information we can measure about parameters.

Automated and Smart Microscopy Software

Automated and smart microsopy tools developed in lab allow us to collect and measure vast amounts of florescent imaging data to measure how experiments distort true probabily distributions into measured probability distributions using a simple linear operator.

Outreach

Taking the skills learned in academia and using that to help the community is very important. I am very proud to have educated some smart students in thermodyanmics at a nearby middle school and have learned a lot about how to communicate science to those that might be seeing the topic for the first time and arent familiar with engineering.

Teaching

Engineering is an exiting field but can be hard to get into and giving students the passion to study subjects is a key part of that process. Here you can find some presentation slides I presented to get graduate students interested in stochastic models at UQbio 2022.
